All parents want to make the best choices about how to educate their children. Often, when moms and dads begin to discover the unique qualities of the Montessori approach to education, they wonder how children in a Montessori environment compare to those educated with a more traditional approach.
We are happy to say multiple studies verify that Montessori students perform just as well, if not better, than their peers in academic testing situations. But another fact to consider is that when tested for social and behavioral responses and executive functions, Montessori students typically score higher – indicating a better overall preparedness for life and future success.
One famous study (published in the Sept. 29, 2006 issue of the journal Science) was directed by Dr. Angeline Lillard, Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia. We encourage you to read a synopsis of this outcome-based study here and learn about the science behind the idea that Montessori education provides a better foundation for success as your child grows toward his or her life’s work.
